Now that you've seen the video, you can understand what the fuss is about. Now, some people think that this game is going to revitalize the series and somehow pay homage to the classic Metroid 3 or Super Metroid if you will. While I do think that it will more than likely share story elements with it, I don't think there will be many more similarities. If anything, the game will have more similarities with later 2D titles (Fusion & Zero Mission). What do I mean by that? Well, from the trailer, we can see Samus reporting to a superior officer who asks "Any objections, Lady?". This was addressed in Metroid Fusion. Samus often reflects about a "friend" who would ask her this question regularly.
Sadly, with heavy speculation, the exploration element seems to have been toned down immensely, if not, done away with all together. There could be a few reasons for this. As you know by now, this game is being developed by Team Ninja. They are mainly known for their action games like Ninja Gaiden. The gameplay footage we see in the video shows Samus kicking all kinds of ass but not really exploring anything.
Where's the Morph Ball? Not once did we see her use this iconic upgrade. Now, you and I both know that this is feature that couldn't possibly be left out... Or could it? Honestly, I'm not too worried about it.
It seems like they've got the story element nailed down pretty good. So, what's new? Well, as you can see, Samus is more acrobatic than we have ever seen her. She moves like, well, a ninja. It also seems that he is now able to grab enemies and throw them which was never possible before. It looks like we'll be seeing a more advanced AI system here as far as Metroid goes.
What's being revived? It looks like the Screw Attack is here which is a good thing. The Speed Booster seems to be here as well and I have to admit that I've been waiting for a 3D version of this for a while. Missiles are here, Ice Beam is here, Power Beam is here, and targeting is here. I'm sure there will be much more. What's a Metroid game without upgrades?
What about visuals? Well, as far as I can tell, this game proves to be one of the most graphically advanced titles ever to grace the Wii. Textures look crisp and clean and particles come off nice and smooth. There are a few scenes where it looks like the engine struggles to keep up, though... Cut scenes look amazing. Seriously.
So, I'm excited for this game. I'm ready for it. It needs to be in my Wii... NOW!
What did you think of the video? Do you think the game will live up to the hype? Let me know!
